A cost-effective combined advanced therapy to treat knee osteoarthritis

Publication: Toward New Assessment of Knee Cartilage Degeneration

The team at Reykjavik University just recently published a new article in the quarterly SAGE journal CARITLAGE. The article is entitled “Toward New Assessment of Knee Cartilage Degeneration”. It introduces a novel methodology to evaluate knee bones and cartilages, based on features extracted from MRI and CT of healthy, traumatic and degenerative subjects. 3D models of femoral, tibial and patellar bones and cartilages are created. This is a first step into the development of a sensitive metric of cartilage and bone conditions, to design a patient-specific tissue-engineered solution.

The work described in this article started with Reykjavik University’s participation in the RESTORE project and is continued now in the SINPAIN project.
